The full vegetarian recipe set — strict-veg Indian, vegan dishes, and global vegetarian classics.
Vegetarian cooking is the centre of gravity of Indian food. About two-thirds of our recipe library is vegetarian-by-default — and the Sindhi, Bhatia, Gujarati, and South Indian sections are almost entirely so. This page rolls up everything that doesn't involve meat or fish, including our vegan recipes (which are a vegetarian subset by definition).
Outside of the Indian sections, our vegetarian Italian, Mediterranean, Mexican, and Indo-Chinese cooking leans heavily on the pulses-grain-vegetable triangle that all great peasant food shares: a hearty mixed-bean chilli, a pasta e fagioli, a Moroccan-style chickpea tagine, a paneer-or-tofu chilli for the Indo-Chinese craving.
Eggs appear in the eggetarian section, not here — we keep the lines clear because Indian families often draw them strictly. If you eat eggs, browse both sections together; if you don't, this page is your full universe.
