About us
Desi Family Kitchen
A working family recipe book, opened to the public. 915 recipes across 14 cuisines.
Desi Family Kitchen is a recipe collection that began as a private cookbook for a Hindu Bhatia family — essentially Sindhi — scattered across Dubai, Mumbai, Bahrain, Sydney, Wellington, and a quiet street in suburban Toronto. It grew because the neighbours started asking, then the colleagues, then strangers via Google. We opened the door in early 2026.
The full origin story — three generations, four cuisines, one stubborn promise that no recipe in this family would ever again be lost to a forgotten WhatsApp thread or a tea-stained scrap of paper — is over on Our Story.
What you'll find here
- 915 recipes across 14 cuisines, all with real measurements, full nutrition, and tested instructions.
- Sindhi, Bhatia, Gujarati, Rajasthani, North and South Indian — the heart of the project.
- Indo-Chinese, Italian, Mexican, American, Thai, Japanese, Mediterranean, Middle Eastern — the food we actually cook on a Tuesday night.
- A meal planner, shopping list, and macro tracker — because that's how we use the cookbook ourselves.
- Free to use, no paywall, no ads.
How to use it
Browse by cuisine if you know what kind of food you want to cook, by diet if you're shopping for vegan or eggetarian, or just hit the home page and search. Every recipe has a print-friendly PDF, a serving stepper that re-scales ingredients, and a Read Aloud button if your hands are full.
Who runs it
The cookbook is maintained by the Bagason family kitchen, based across Dubai, Mumbai, Bahrain, Sydney, Wellington, and Toronto. We're not professional chefs — we're three generations of home cooks who got tired of hunting for our own recipes.
